Property Details

Outstanding location facing the indian Ocean and its winter Humpback Whales breeding colony, the lodge 'Dunes de Dovela Eco Lodge' is built on the secondary dunes and is nested in the coastal forest (a bird watchers paradise) close to the Dongane lake (inharrime District).

The establishment has an excellent reputation (particularly for its high-quality Franco-Mozambican cuisine and its personalized services) in the opinion of its Maputo's clientele, the international guests (see Trip Advisor http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g298354-d2325090-Reviews-Dunes_de_Dovela_eco_lodge-inhambane.html) or the Mozambique specialized tour operators. For 11 years the lodge is run and maintained by its French creators and owners, living on the site on a full-time basis.

The land of « Dunes de Dovela » covers 80 hectares in the shape of a strip of 2 km length and 500 meters width. This land goes from the indian Ocean (« Manhame » beach) to the inland lake 'Dongane'. The eco-lodge itself is built over 5 hectares on the secondary dunes facing the indian Ocean (GPS cordonates : S 24° 25' 59.1''/ E 035° 15' 03.0'').

The design of the lodge has been done by the 2 owners Frederic Bonlieu (farmer) and Thomas Bruneau (construction engineer) in order to reduce the impact on the environment and optimize the use of local materials. The 2 owners have permanently supervised themselves the construction (2008-2011). They have trained all the construction workers (70 persons at peak) coming from the surrounding communities in order to achieve an impressive level of quality and finishing that give to the place a magic touch.

Last but not least, the relations with the communities around are extremely good, easy and simple. Employing only people from the neighboring villages, buying as much as possible from the locals (fish, seafood, vegetables and fruits), being largely involved in Dovela primary school development (we focused on improving the working conditions by several construction, by financing school material, by developing a library etc..) created not only fair relations but also a strong and natural protection from ill-intentioned acts. The lodge is extremely well seen in the village.

The hotel consists of a restaurant/kitchen building, a reception, a bar/restroom, 3 Luxurious Bungalows, 4 Semi Luxury Dome Tents and one Luxury Tent.

The lodge (in fact the owner company Fretom Turismo Limitada) is sold together with :

● a land of 80 Ha and 3 cars 4X4 (Toyota Hilux Pick up, Toyota Prado 7 places, Land Rover Defender 110)

● all the equipment for snorkeling, beach and hiking activities together with all the equipment required to run the place (furniture, bedding, dishes and construction)

● Several technical buildings: workshop, carpentry, staff camp (including kitchen and bathroom), laundry, fuel storage, furniture storage, generator shelter and a manager house.

● The hotel is self-sufficient: 40 kVA generator (and 3 back up 5.5 kVA generators), a borehole with a submersible pump (and one spare pump), a 5m3 water tank. 2 septic tanks of 12m3.

The company employs currently 17 persons from surrounding villages with a high training level.

Mozambique is a southern African nation whose long indian Ocean coastline is dotted with popular beaches like Tofo, as well as offshore marine parks. in the Quirimbas Archipelago, a 250km stretch of coral islands, mangrove-covered ibo island has colonial-era ruins surviving from a period of Portuguese rule. The Bazaruto Archipelago farther south has reefs which protect rare marine life including dugongs.
